Tag Your Dog
In keeping with the theme of National Pet Week and responsible pet ownership, I thought this was a good time to remind you to make sure your pet is always wearing an identification tag. None of us plan on losing our pets, but it does happen. Although microchipping your dog is one way to help get him back to you, it’s even more important that your dog is wearing an identification tag with your contact information. The person who finds your dog should he become lost may not have access to a scanner to read your dog’s microchip, but it’s easy enough to read an id tag with your name and phone number.
The good news is identification tags are fairly inexpensive and you have several options. One option is the metal nametag. These come in a variety of colors and shapes. This is the one Maggie wears. Hers is bone-shaped, and I got it at the kiosk in Petco. After two years the engraving hasn’t worn away too much. I also like the options for dog owners who worry about the tags getting caught on something and causing injury. In this case, dog owners can opt for a personalized collar which has your dog’s name and your contact information embroidered directly onto the collar.
