Adoption Option: Breed Rescues
Before we adopted Maggie, we volunteered to foster dogs for a group called Labs4Rescue. What I learned from the experience was it isn’t just mixed breed dogs who end up homeless. This rescue group pulls purebred labs from high volume shelters and places them in foster homes until they can go to a new family. If you take a minute to browse through the available dogs on their website, you’ll find the faces of a number of purebred puppies and adults in need of loving homes.
Labs4Rescue isn’t the only breed specific rescue group out there. Unfortunately, dogs of every breed end up being surrendered by their owners. Chances are if there’s a dog breed that tugs at your heart strings, there’s a rescue group out there for that breed. If you’re thinking of adding a new dog to your family and have your heart set on a specific breed, take a few minutes to search the internet or Petfinder.com for dogs available for adoption. Chances are you’ll find the perfect dog for your family, and at the same time you may be saving a life!
